🏜️ Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Draa Valley – Erg Chigaga Desert Camp
We’ll kick off early, between 6:30 AM and 8:00 AM, depending on the season. Although it’s a long drive to the desert, around 9 hours, every twist and turn offers stunning views and countless highlights. Starting early means more time for exciting stops!
As we leave Marrakech behind, we head straight for the High Atlas Mountains, where we’ll cross the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass – the highest paved pass in Morocco at 2,260 meters. The drive offers panoramic views and traditional Berber villages tucked into the hills.
Next, we’ll visit the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the backdrop for films like Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. After a short walk through this ancient ksar, we continue to Ouarzazate, the gateway to the desert.
From there, we journey through the lush Draa Valley, home to over 3 million date palms and countless old kasbahs. As we reach M’Hamid, where the paved road ends, the Sahara finally unveils itself. From here, we go off-road straight into the heart of the dunes until we arrive at your home for the next two nights – the magical Aladdin Desert Camp in Erg Chigaga.
Upon arrival, settle into your luxury desert camp and soak in the beauty of the dunes. A traditional Moroccan dinner under the stars awaits, followed by drumming and stories around the fire.
🐪 Day 2: Full Day in Erg Chigaga Desert Camp – Sahara Adventures & Relaxation
Wake up surrounded by the golden sands of the Sahara. Day 2 is yours to enjoy at your own pace. Whether you prefer relaxing in the calm of the camp or heading out to explore the vast dunes, there’s plenty to choose from.
Join a guided camel trek across the soft sands, or try your hand at sandboarding down the dunes. Later, sip traditional mint tea while watching the sun sink below the horizon during your magical sundowner on the dunes.
For those who love culture, spend time with your local hosts, learning about Berber traditions and the nomadic way of life. As night falls, gather again around the fire for informal singing and drumming, creating lasting memories beneath a sky full of stars.
🚙 Day 3: Erg Chigaga – Foum Zguid – Taznakht – Marrakech
After a peaceful morning and breakfast at the camp, we begin the journey back to Marrakech. Today’s route is even more adventurous as we head off the beaten track via the desert’s wild landscapes.
We’ll cross remote desert plains to reach Foum Zguid, a quiet town where desert life meets the modern world. Next, we stop at Taznakht, famous for its handwoven Berber carpets – a great spot to pick up a unique souvenir.
Finally, we wind our way back over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, returning to Marrakech by evening, full of memories and incredible photos from your Sahara adventure.
